How does one make a masala film without much effort? Mani Ratnam delivered a screenwriting masterclass through the simple-minded entertainer Agni Natchathiram. The outline of Sivappu Manjal Pachai gives the film a hit-tip. There, a conflict ensued between two half-brothers over the ownership of bloodshed. Here, it is a confrontation between two brothers and sisters Rajasekhar and Madhan (Siddharth and GV Prakash Kumar) over the ‘ownership’ of a woman.

Siddharth sheds his ‘Chocolate Boy’ image to play the role of an astute, hyper-masculine Rajasekhar (who thinks of the khaki clad in Agni Natchatham) as a traffic police officer. He is the youngest to be short-listed for Central Intelligence, but he opposes a less-explored road (no punishing intent). His ideology is: ‘Society discriminates, does not street’. But the class difference is evident in Sivappu Manjul Pachai, where Rajasekhar is the quintessential ‘class’ hero, while Madhan (Agni Natchathiram thinks of Karthik, who incidentally had his own biker gang) is Mr. Local, who is’ largely ‘Attracts the audience. ‘(Derogatory term for dividing people). It could easily become a ‘Us vs Them’ story, but the film is not about class differences. It is about the male ego. Take this scene for example. A police officer constantly insults the criminal by wrapping him in a nightie. The boy’s ego is pierced – which makes him a man.
Sivappu Manjal Pachai is basically a male universe, where men try to take authority over women, hiding under a blanket of love. It could be a husband controlling his wife (Rajasekhar saves his wife Rajalakshmi aka Raji’s number as a control room) or a brother on his sister (Madhavan tells everything about Raji). The sibling spirit seen in any Rajinikanth film in the ’70s, where he played the role of savior, is depicted through Raji’s (superb performance by Lizomol Jose) and Madhavan’s relationship.
The film begins with a young Raji and Madhavan in school. The latter is raised to sign his sister’s rank card. He protects his sister by saying to the teacher, “There is no guardian for us.” I am his father and he is my mother. “This is a big statement of a child, but how Madhavan wants him to be.” He did not let his sister think for herself. Raji is constantly referred to as “Poonai” due to fear of cats. In fact, this Madhan, who is actually a punai, calls it weak for the people, due to his childhood nature. Watch out for the scene where he crawls like a child when Raji decides to marry Rajasekhar. He shows his inner aggression in racing. He is a biker and often puts his life at stake for illegal street racing. One could argue that Madhavan aspires to become Rajasekhar. When these two places meet, we should see the fireworks on the screen. But this happens only partially.
Sivappu Manjal Pachai is not devoid of issues – Mammon-Makhan conflict, generic love track given to Madan, too much reliance on plastic bike racing sequences … but the writing is largely effective. I liked Raji’s failed attempts to integrate her brother and husband. There is a beautiful scene where she washes clothes and hangs them to dry. She stops each other, wears her husband’s uniform and brother’s jersey (note the jersey number: 46. This is Valentino Rossi’s) and clips them together. I loved when Madhavan was naughty around Rajasekhar. I liked that Rajasekhar’s mother made a point about Raj Aurai’s misunderstanding without giving too many lectures. I have no objection to their closure, although it reintroduces melodrama.
What are my thoughts on TamilRockers?
First of all I do not recommend you to watch movies on your laptop or smartphone, I think it is an insult to that film. Laptops or smartphones are fine for TV shows, especially if you are a fan of Netflix.
But when it comes to films, it is very good to see in the cinema hall, especially if the budget of films is high, then you should watch it in the cinema hall itself.
Because it is going to give you a great experience compared to a laptop or smartphone. So my views are very clear,
I do not recommend you to watch or download movies from TamilRockers. But if you are living in a remote area where it is difficult to get inside the cinema hall, or it is far away from your home, then I recommend you buy a platform based platform like Amazon Prime on Netflix, which compares to TamilRockers I am much better.
